Project Background

SLEK YOUNG is an anti-acne skincare brand designed for teenagers, operating under the SLEK Group. The product line includes water toner, cleansing foam, and essence gel — all formulated to address common teenage skin concerns.
SLEK Group partnered with OPD Design to create a distinctive packaging identity that would stand out on retail shelves and resonate with teenage consumers. The brief called for a playful, memorable design that communicated the brand’s “acne-eliminating” promise while maintaining manufacturing feasibility and cost efficiency for mass production.

Solution

Fire Extinguisher Concept

The product’s appearance design is based on the concept of “Skin Problem Extinguisher,” using the visual language of a fire extinguisher to express the acne-eliminating effect. This skeuomorphic approach makes the packaging more interesting and experiential for teenage consumers, while also increasing their willingness to engage with daily skincare routines.

Bottle Structure and Materials

The bottle structure consists of four components: a PET filling bottle, a decorative acrylic case, a PP pump head, and an anti-pressure clip. Materials were selected for durability, chemical compatibility with skincare formulations, and cost efficiency at mass production scale.

The three skincare products contain gel, foam, and liquid formulations. Pump heads were selected based on the viscosity and dispensing characteristics of each formulation, ensuring smooth operation and consistent dosage across the product line.

Our Teen Skin Care Packaging Development Process

Step 1-Brand & Market Research

Research into teenage skincare consumer preferences, retail shelf competition, and cultural trends. Interviews with SLEK Group defined brand positioning, target age group, and key differentiators for the anti-acne segment.

Step 2-Industrial Design

Exterior styling of the fire-extinguisher-themed bottle, including proportions, grip ergonomics, and visual details that communicate the “skin problem extinguisher” concept. Multiple concept studies were evaluated for shelf impact and manufacturing feasibility.

Step 3-Packaging Design

Structural design of the four-component bottle system (PET bottle, acrylic case, pump head, anti-pressure clip). Material specifications were finalized for chemical compatibility with gel, foam, and liquid formulations.

Step 4-Branding & Visual Identity

Brand identity design for SLEK YOUNG, including logo adaptation, color palette, label design, and typography. The visual system was engineered to appeal to teenage consumers while maintaining brand consistency across the product line.

Step 5-Packaging Prototyping

Physical prototypes were fabricated for all three product variants (water toner, cleansing foam, essence gel). Prototypes were tested for dispensing performance, structural integrity, and visual accuracy against the design intent.

Step 6-Packaging Production & Printing

Production-ready artwork was prepared, including label printing files, color proofs, and assembly instructions. OPD Design coordinated with the printing and assembly supply chain to ensure color accuracy and consistent quality across mass production batches.
