Project Background

In the current electric shaver market, most products are primarily function-oriented, paying little attention to the “emotional value of everyday items.”

We rethink the electric shaver as a small appliance that is close to daily life and has a personal companionship attribute. We attempted to incorporate leather, a material with warmth and a sense of time, into the shaver design, creating a product that combines practicality, comfort, and a sense of quality of life.

Solution

Electric Shaver Design Innovations

1. Discomfort from prolonged use:

The single-rotation or reciprocating head can easily cause pulling and pressure in areas with significant facial contours.

2. Cold or slippery feel:

The metal and plastic casings are prone to slipping in humid environments and lack a warm, comfortable grip.

3. Severe homogenization in appearance:

Most electric shavers lack distinctive design, making it difficult to blend into home or personal style settings.

Electric Shaver Design Process

Step 1-Industrial design

Exploring Form and Proportion:

The overall design is based on simple geometric rounded blocks, avoiding overly complex component lines, making the product visually more like a personal item rather than a cold, impersonal tool.
The proportions were tested multiple times to ensure that the thumb can easily reach the button areas when the hand naturally rests on the surface.

Material Strategy: Leather × Metal

Leather provides a soft and non-slip grip, while naturally displaying wear and tear over time, strengthening the emotional connection between the product and the user.
Metal is used at the top and bottom and in key structural areas to ensure durability and precision, while also creating a subtle material contrast.

Step 2-Machanical Design

Dual Rotary Blade Design:

Based on user research, the dual rotary blade structure better conforms to the different curvatures of the face.
The dual rotary system effectively distributes pressure, reducing irritation during shaving and improving overall comfort and efficiency, making it suitable for quick daily use.

Operation and Details:

The entire body is IPX7 waterproof, and the leather undergoes a special adhesive waterproofing treatment.
The proportions of the blades and body have been repeatedly adjusted, and a modular magnetic structure makes changing and cleaning a natural and convenient action.
